Anglicke nabrezi 10:00 am - Pious ceremony to commemorate the Plzeň policemen that perished while on duty during the First Republic, during the occupation of Czechoslovakia in World War II, and also those that were executed by the Nazis or died in concentration camps.

Army Shooting Range Stadium in Plzen - Lobzy – INTERNATIONAL MILITARY COMPETITION CISM – REGIONAL in marksmanship. Teams representing 14 member countries of the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) will participate in this traditional competition. The event is held by the Military Sport Centre DUKLA in Plzen together with the Office of Directing Sports Representation at the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic.

Plzen Klic 2008 (KEY 2008), the first modern Czech National Jamboree, otherwise known as the Boy Scout Assembly. This event is meant for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in the age of 10 to 16 years from the entire Czech Republic and from friendly troops of foreign countries. Around 2500 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are expected to arrive. The main purpose of KLIC 2008 is a friendly get-together of Czech Scouts, establishing new mutual contacts, enriching the activity of the participating troops, motivation for future activities and introducing the new and modern programme of the Junák Organization (the name of the Czech Scouting Organization). In the Národopisné muzeum (Ethnographical Museum) in Plzeň on the Republic Square an EXHIBITION – HistorY OF THE CZeCHOslovAKIAN Air force will be held – historical photographs, documents, uniforms, and war decorations, will be exhibited by the Aviation Historical Club under the auspices of the City of Plzen.

Municipal Swimming Pool in Slovany, Chvojkov Quarry in Slovany, and the Army Shooting Range Stadium in Lobzy - general G.S.Patton’s European youth cup in Modern Triathlon for youth up to 16 years of age. The competition was thanks to its high sports-societal level listed in the Calendar of both the World and European Federations of Modern Pentathlon and its hosting was entrusted to the City of Plzen. It will take place under the patronage of the President of the European Confederation and it will also be the final qualification contest before the European Championships in this age category. The significance of this competition can be confirmed by the fact that it was ranked among the most important activities listed under the “Top Junior Sport Plzen” events. The Pětibojařské sportovní centrum (Pentathlon Sports Centre) has been conscientiously taking care of the European Youth Cup now already for its eighth year.

The disciplines of the Modern Triathlon for youth younger than 16 years are swimming, marksmanship and running. The Plzen Triathlon will test the strength and preparedness of a hundred to a hundred and twenty individuals and teams from around a dozen countries, and that not only from Europe. The contest bears the name of George Smith Patton, General of the United States Army and the Commander of the 3rd US Army that at the end of the Second World War liberated the western and south-western part of Bohemia including our city. G. S. Patton had, aside from his military successes also triumphs in the area of sports. In 1912 he placed in an excellent 5th place in Modern Pentathlon at the Olympic Games in Stockholm.

Mestanska beseda (Municipal Educational Organization) exhibition – first americans (Zdenek Poustka). Photographs of the native inhabitants of America in Indian costumes. The author of the pictures, Mr. Zdenek Poustka died suddenly and unexpectedly and so this exhibition is enacted in memoriam.

Centre of the City 10:30 am – 2:30 pm: half-marathon of Plzeň - Onča Krasny’s Memorial. This is the first year of the race. The race is 21.097 km long and starts in the Republic Square and then continues through the Orchard Ring Road to Pallova Street, the Brewery area and the Strunc Orchards. The runners will break the finishing tape in the Dřevěná Street and the winners will be awarded between 1:00 and 1:45 pm on the Republic Square.

The race is in memory of the popular personality of athletics Miloslav Krasny. He was an excellent athlete-runner and exceptional trainer, known affectionately among the athletic community under his nickname Onča. He trained under the direction of Miroslav Hlinka and later himself brought up several generations of successful Plzeň athletes, among of which were even several Czechoslovak record holders. Among his most known protégés were Marcel Theer, Petr Mares, H. Zimova, I. Hlavackova and lately Pavel Soukup, Michal Sneberger, Lenka Ptackova and Vladimir Bartunek.

Golf Park Plzen in Dysina near Plzen: 1st Rotary Charity Golf Cup Pilsen 2008 – Golf Tournament under the auspices of the Ambassador of USA in the Czech Republic, The Honourable Richard Graber. The financial proceeds will be used by the Plzeň Rotary Club, the organizer of the tournament – towards the support of the Charity Organizations LEDOVEC, EXODUS or for the Diocese of the Czech Brethren Evangelical Church in Plzen, which helps medically handicapped people return back into everyday life. Army Shooting Range Stadium in Plzen – Lobzy: VELKA CENA OSVOBOZENI PLZEN 2008 (LIBERATION OF PILSEN Grand trophy 2008) in marksmanship shooting. Athletes from 33 countries from around the world will participate in this contest that is held by the Military Sport Centre DUKLA in Plzen.
